Wind turbine power curves (P & cp)

I am looking for open power curves (P and/or cp).
At the moment we are using data from a commercial software.

We want to include the curves in the windpowerlib so we are looking for open licenses.

Some data is published in data sheets as tables or plots.
Any chance these can be used freely/open?
What are the options if we don’t find any open data?

@stefan.pfenninger How do you handle this issue in the REninjas?

Ludwig, very good question and I’m curious on Stefan’s answer to that.
My idea would be to graphically reproduce/redraw them from freely available manufacturers data sheets, e.g. from here: https://www.enercon.de/fileadmin/Redakteur/Produkte/e-126/LK_E-126_7580kW_de.png
However, I have no clue if this (a) is allowed and (b) would make the data then “open”.
Robbie, can you comment on that?

If we look at OSM (digitizing maps):

Can I trace data from Google Maps/Nokia Maps/…?
No. … This is because their licences and/or terms of use (contracts) forbid you to do so. Only sources with compatible licenses - such as US Government information released into the public domain - may be used as bases for adding OSM data.

Technically it is possible to collect data sheets from the manufacturer websites and use tools like Enauge Digitizer or other software.

I think most modelling teams have a collection of “ripped” power curves :zipper_mouth_face:

Contacting the manufacturers is an option (following the EntsoE procedure).

NREL database (CSV) “SAM wind turbine power curves” [1]

So it is not an open license but allows copies. The redistribution of these copies is not allowed?

WindPower “Wind turbine power curve database (free)” [1]

Simply use the form on our Contact Us webpage to send the details of the wind turbine to us preferably as a webpage link and we will convert it to a power curve file using a specialised graph-to-data conversion software program.

DTU Wind Energy “WAsP wind turbine generator files by manufacturer” [1]

If and when you need a site-specific power and thrust curve for your WAsP project which is not available here, you should contact the manufacturer of the wind turbine in question directly.

Scaled curves published under an open license!? @iain.staffell @stefan.pfenninger

That’s an option. But not a solution.

It’s not up to date but may still be helpful for somebody: http://www.wind-works.org/cms/index.php?id=625&tx_ttnews[tt_news]=3935&cHash=39424df20f9c961ee7cd158a85cabe36

I’m happy to announce the publication of an open dataset for wind power curves: the wind turbine library.
After tackling some legal and technical obstacles we published the data on the OEP:

Since this is a community effort, everybody can contribute using this issue:

I’m looking forward to your feedback!
